Laboratory Asset Maintenance, Repair & Calibration

The increasing sophistication and microprocessor-based design of current generation laboratory instruments and equipment make careful management of maintenance and service agreements vital to lab productivity and financial control. As laboratory instruments increase in complexity, the importance of service contracts in keeping lab assets calibrated and available to investigators and technicians will continue to be essential.

Because of the cost penalties and logistical overhead they foster, the days of contracting with OEMs for the instruments they supply is fast disappearing. This legacy model is being replaced by a streamlined approach in which one - or for very large labs and multi-site organizations a few - service providers are chosen via a deliberate selection process to provide service and support for equipment across a range of modalities and brands on a contract basis, and at standardized service levels.

Our Services
We work with companies to ease the transition from legacy service models to a single-source provider, with the potential for lower costs and enhanced service outcomes.

The Active Service Contract Cost Analysis examines existing lab asset service contracts across a single service supplier, a single asset type, or across all lab assets and determines the total service contract costs and, when applicable, the total cost by service, supplier and by asset class. Data is provided for the current year and annually for up to four forward years, resulting in a histogram that provides a visual display of the impact of estimated lab asset service costs over time.

The Work Flow-based Service Requirements Analysis starts with an Asset Unit Usage Analysis and  Service History Assessment and uses this data to calculate what service contract costs should be based on actual asset availability risk. This information can be compared to the Active Service Contract Cost Analysis output to determine the service contract cost differential and can highlight opportunities for cost reduction or exposure to higher than acceptable ad hoc service costs and/or asset downtime.

Service Level Convergence and Optimization uses the output of the Active Service Contract Cost Analysis and the Work Flow-based Service Requirements Analysis to develop an information-based service strategy that reflects actual lab asset service requirements based on asset usage and asset service risk. This output can form the basis of future lab service quotation solicitations.

Service Requirements RFP and Vendor Selection Support starts with the output of the Service Level Convergence and Optimization assessment and creates a comprehensive set of lab asset service requirements that can be used to generate a Request for Proposal (RFP). The RFP forms the core of future service contract negotiations and the entire service supplier selection process.

Once the supplier selection process is concluded and a consolidated service contract is in place, upon request we will handle Lab Maintenance Contract Management on an ongoing basis for  agreed-upon defined term.
